Company portrait / About us

MONTI produces tools for surface treatment in Germany and sells them in 80 countries across the globe. Experts from all over the world turn to the technology of the Bonn, Germany-based firm, implementing it daily in thousands of workshops and construction sites. Patented innovations, high-quality workmanship, and safe operation are but three of the reasons why MONTI products are today establishing themselves as the first choice for a great variety of applications.

At the heart of the MONTI product range is the MBX® system that has been continuously refined over the last 20 years and that is now implemented in the automotive and marine industries, the mechanical engineering sector, as well as within the oil, gas and petrochemical industries. MONTI products are manufactured in Germany in our ISO 9001-certified company and comprise a stable part of the equipment range of international wholesalers such as Würth, Berner, Förch and workshop outfitters like Snap-On Tools. Among its other awards, the product line "MBX® Automotive Pneumatic" was included among the winners in the "TOP 20 Tools Award" sponsored by the US specialty publication "Motor Magazine".

Best Practises

On hand at the latest "facelift" of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the MBX® Bristle Blaster® system was implemented to renew the surface of the monument's steel frame. MONTI products are also on duty in the maintenance work on the so-called Eurotunnel connecting England with France. Those responsible for the maintenance of the biggest bridge building projects in Oceania, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Auckland Harbour Bridge, are using products from the MBX® tool series as well. The same is true for the Sydney Tower, one of the highest buildings in Australia. Specialists implemented the MBX® Bristle Blaster® system during the construction phase of the world's largest LNG (liquid natural gas) train that runs across the fields of Ras Laffan in Qatar, and it is still used in maintenance operations.

In 2009, the Exxon Mobil refinery in Singapore shut down for major maintenance work after three uninterrupted years online. MONTI Bristle Blaster® technology helped to clean and texture steel surfaces for preparation of TSA (thermal spraying of aluminum). You can also find us on the grounds of the NASA space station on Cape Canaveral, where MONTI products help the maintenance teams there with their daily tasks. MONTI MBX® product lines have received official certification from Daimler, Volkswagen, Audi, BMW and Porsche for use at their respective certified locations. And in the oil, gas and petrochemical industries, companies like BP, Total, Saudi Aramco, Qatar Gas, Exxon Mobil, Pemex, Petrobras and Gasco apply MONTI’s MBX® Bristle Blasting technology to their trade.

History

Werner Montabaur and Detlef Thomas establish the MONTI-Werkzeuge GmbH in Bonn, Germany in 1987. Both men are convinced that they can tap the market for flexible brush belt devices for surface treatment procedures. Montabaur comes up with the idea to develop more effective machine tools while refinishing oak beams – the tools available to him at that time proved to be hardly suitable for the task. The two businessmen protect Montabaur’s new technology with a range of patents and in the beginning sell their products – made exclusively in Germany – at DIY stores like Obi, Bauhaus and Home Depot.

1995 marks the debut of MONTI's tried and true MBX® in-line drive unit with different belts for the removal of undercoat, sealants, corrosion and paint for the automotive industry. In 1998 the Bonn-based manufacturer completes its line of products with the MBX® decal eraser wheel.

In 2005 MONTI establishes MONTI Tools Inc., a sales and marketing office for North America, based in Houston, Texas. In 2006 MONTI and its sales partners introduce the MBX® Bristle Blaster®, thus adding new industrial sectors to the company's range of possible customers. In the future, MONTI’s MBX® Bristle Blaster® technology will be in use for surface preparation in the on and offshore sectors of the oil, gas and petrochemical industries, marine applications and for bridge refurbishment. The R&D department of the tool producer works constantly to improve their technologies and to come up with new surface treatment solutions. MONTI is financially independent and again in February 2009 received the rating 1(A) from the Bonn Sparkasse Bank.
